About Having come from a varied riding background competing in all disciplines Sue started driving in 1992. Roly aka (Rolls Silver Spirit) was purchased in 2000 as a spare pony to back up a pair she had bought. Due to foot and mouth and the lack of competitions in 2001 Roly was mostly worked on our own grounds in the Isle of Man, Very soon it became obvious that he was much more capable as a single, largely due to nothing else being able to match his paces or his speed. In 2002 he made his debut at Hopetoun driving trials in Scotland, winning the dressage phase. Over the next two years as he gained experience he also proved a very difficult pony to bit, a lot to do with his typical Arab mouth. We tried a huge variety of bits and in the end competed him in a modified Swales bit, the mouthpiece was removed and one very similar to the new dual action bits was fitted. As the competition got more advanced many hours of studying video footage resulted in the carriages that are now used, these are also built by Denney Equestrian Ltd (see gallery) it was also possible to identify ways of improving the signals to Roly to allow him to get through obstacles as fast and as smooth as possible. The Dual action bit was developed and tested in 2004/5 and immediately changed our way of driving, since using the Dual action bit in May 2005 the results speak for themselves; 28 marathon wins. 17 national wins. CAI'B Compiegne France. Four times national points league champion, two with full 60 points. 2 Royal Windsor wins. National champion 2005. Team bronze medal winner at Catton Park host of World Combined Pony Championships 2005. All our bits are designed to be as horse friendly as possible and aim to enhance performance through gentle encouragement, which we believe to be better for your horse and you. |
